District of Innovation
On February 13, 2017, Rusk ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution to initiate the process under Education Code Chapter 12A to become a District of Innovation for the sole purpose of exemption from TEC §25.0811 First Day of Instruction.
Immediately following adoption of the resolution, the board held a public hearing to consider whether the district should develop a local innovation plan for the designation of the district as a district of innovation. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the board appointed the District Planning committee to further study District of Innovation and develop a local innovation plan.
The Innovation/District Planning committee developed a local innovation plan, sought constituent input, held a public meeting and passed the local innovation plan by majority vote.
The Innovation Plan was then posted on the district website for a minimum of 30 days.
On April 10, 2017, the Board of Trustees, adopted the Local Innovation plan for exemption from TEC §25.0811 First Day of Instruction by a unanimous vote.
